The Government of ​Brunei Darussalam Scholarships 2026/2027 for Foreign Students (Fully Funded to Brunei)

Applications are now open for the2026/2027 Government of ​Brunei Darussalam Scholarships. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to invite applications for the Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship to Foreign Students Tenable in Brunei Darussalam (BDGS) for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The Scholarship provides applicants with the opportunity to pursue studies at the Diploma, Undergraduate Degree and Postgraduate Master’s Degree level at the following institutions of higher education in Brunei:

• Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)
• Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA)
• Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB)
• Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB)
• Politeknik Brunei (PB)

The academic year commences July/August 2026.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

• NOT on the first day of July on the year when the course/programme starts exceed the ages of:
  • 25 for Undergraduate and Diploma programmes, and
  • 35 for Postgraduate Master’s Degree programmes.
• Be proficient in English with a/ an:
  • Credit 6 at GCE ‘O’ Level Examination or
  • Grade ‘C” in IGCSE English (as a second language) or
  • TOEFL minimum score of 550 or
  • IELTS score of 6.0

NOTE: The Scholarship is intended primarily for international students studying for the first time in Brunei Darussalam. Brunei Darussalam Permanent Residents are not eligible.

Benefits

1. The scholarship recipient will be facilitated with the benefits of the scholarship as follows:

   1. exemption from paying tuition fees including acceptance, examination, registration and orientation fees for the duration of the programme;
   2. an economy class air-ticket to Brunei Darussalam from the scholarship recipient’s country of origin/ country of domicile prior to the commencement of the course and an economy class air-ticket from Brunei Darussalam to the scholarship recipient’s country of origin/country of domicile upon completion of the course;
   3. a monthly personal allowance of BND$500.00;
   4. a monthly meals allowance of BND$150.00;
   5. an annual book allowance of BND$600.00;
   6. accommodation at the residential college of the University/ Polytechnic;
   7. baggage allowance for shipment of the scholarship recipient’s personal effects to his country of origin/country of domicile upon completion of the programme, at a maximum amount of:
      • BND$250.00 to a country within the ASEAN region; or
      • BND$500.00 to a country outside the ASEAN region;
   8. comprehensive insurance cover for the whole duration of the Scholarship. The scholarship recipient is urged to obtain additional insurance prior to his travel to Brunei Darussalam and for the whole duration of the Scholarship at his own expense.

2. A scholarship recipient is required to:

   1. conform to all the rules and regulations underlying this Scholarship;
   2. abide by the rules and regulations of his University/ Polytechnic;
   3. respect the customs, culture and official religion of Brunei Darussalam;
   4. obey all the laws and regulations of Brunei Darussalam;
   5. refrain from engaging in political activities;
   6. undergo health screening in Brunei Darussalam if deemed necessary by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Application Procedure:

1. The closing date to submit applications for the Scholarship is Sunday, 15 February 2026@23:59
2. Please read all information regarding the courses/ programmes that you are applying to thoroughly, before submitting your application form. A scholarship recipient is NOT permitted to change the programme offered nor the institution where the recipient will be studying. Information on courses/ programmes offered, can be found in the relevant Institutions’ homepage under Institutions’ Information.
3. An applicant may be required to appear for an interview at such place(s) as may be determined by the institutions offering the programmes, and to sit a written examination to assess the applicant’s proficiency in the English/ Malay/ Arabic Language (where applicable).
4. The Government of Brunei Darussalam reserves the right to reject any applications. The decision on the selection of candidates is final. Any disputes or enquiries pertaining to the decision made will not be entertained.
5. The following documents are to be uploaded in the application form:
   • Certified true copies of Passport and/ or Birth Certificate/ National Identification Card/ Document.
   • Certified true copies of academic qualifications and other supporting documents (i.e., certificates, testimonials, transcripts).
   • Certified English translations of academic qualifications and supporting documents must be submitted for documents that are not in English.
   • Certified true copies of English Language Proficiency Certification.
   • Certified true copies of proof of employment.
   • References and recommendations from referees.
   • Research proposal (for Programmes by Research only).
